Missing Schoolbag and House Warming Party

Zaki lost his school bag. Could you believe it? Actually he didn’t really lose his schoolbag.  Don’t know what happened on Friday at school that he totally forgot about his schoolbag.

Guess when did he realize it that he didn’t have his school bag? It was on Sunday night when he wanted to do his homework.

Gah! Sunday night! No one in the family has lost or misplaced it before.  The whole Sunday night was spent looking for his schoolbag. Did he worry about it? A little bit. He scared how to tell his teacher about his missing books and bag. I told him no matter what, he still has to go to school and face the teacher.  Finally after searching high and low in the house, he called his grandpa in Seremban, thinking that he might have left it in his grandpa’s car.

Pity the old man! He has to get up from his bed and searched for the bag too. We almost gave up when his grandpa suggested checking with the school’s guard.

Early yesterday morning, my hubby went to his school to ask the guard, and the bag was there the whole weekend waiting to be collected. The guard found the bag and kept it with him. Alhamdulillah for that, otherwise we have to replace the books, and it is not easy to purchase these books because they are loaners and not available in bookstores.

This also will serve him a lesson to  remember his bag.

Oh ya! On Saturday, we had raya open house cum house warming party. It went well, and the food was just enough. Not many leftovers.

Well, the party was to get to know my neighbors. I have move to this new place for almost 10 months, but I didn’t know my neighbors except for my immediate neighbors. So this gave me the opportunity to know them better.

The party was also to celebrate Hari Raya too, and to welcome my families, relatives and friends to my new house. What did I serve them? It was Nasi Minyak, Ayam Masak Merah, Ayam Goreng Berempah, Dalca, Sayur Acar, Satay, fruits and local kuih.

Hah! Could you spot what was missing? No? Yes? Well, there were no Raya cookies there. My kids have eaten almost all the cookies.

New Hunting Ground - Islamic Kitchen

I found a new restaurant yesterday. Actually the restaurant was not new. It was there for quite some time, but every time we go to that area, we would either eat at JM Beriyani, Chan Abdullah or Italees.

But yesterday, after our training in Sg Jelok, I told hubby I wanted to take something sweet. Yeah! I have a sweet tooth.

“Teh Tarik or Coffee would be nice and, please no Kopitiam this time” I told him.

He then drove to Seksyen 9, and as we passed by few restaurants there, we decided to try the Islamic Kitchen. The one that attracted us was the word pastries.

“Aaaa! They have pastries,” said hubby.

So we went in, but there were not so many people. Maybe it was almost 5pm, and people were getting ready to go home. As usual, wherever I go, I will observe the surrounding. And the different between this restaurant and other, the workers are all guys. Young guys around early twenties.

And the food there, hmmm….they have varieties of food. Western, Mexican, Italians, Asian and Malaysian food.

‘Not bad,” said hubby.

I then ordered ‘teh tarik’ and French toast without honey, and chili sauce. My hubby ordered ‘Cucur Bilis’ and ‘air mata kucing’ for his drink.

They sent the cucur bilis first and sambal, and to our surprise it was hot. They fry the cucur whenever some one order it. At some other places, they would have the 'cucur' pre-cooked, and heat it up in the microwave oven.

Since there were only four small pieces, we ordered another plate, and when my French toast came, it was hot too. The 'teh tarik' was so good that I wanted to order another one, but I didn't. Heaven!

And tonight, we decided to take the kids to the place. Huh! At first, Zara didn’t want to eat there, but changed her mind after we promised her ice-cream.

I wanted to eat Soto Ayam, but then changed my mind when I saw their beef burger. When I ordered beef burger, the rest also decided to have burgers.

Again, we were not disappointed with the foods. The kids mini burger was good and so was ours. The kids love their burgers. Definitely, this will be our next favorite restaurant.

Not only the food is good, the price is also reasonable. For 2 beef burgers, 4 mini burgers, 3 Milo Ice, 1 Teh ‘O’ Ice, 2 mineral waters and 4 icecreams (2 scoops each), the price was only RM83.00.

Apa lagi..cubalah….

Salam.

Lunch at Tupai-Tupai

I went to Tupa-Tupai for lunch today with my friend, R. My BFF, Y, supposed to join us, but she was on medical leave. So it was only the two of us ladies. Oh! R also took me to Tupai-Tupai on her brand new Red Puegoet. Nice and sexy car. Just like the owner.

We left at 12pm after our meeting, and when we reached there, it was still early. The place was already half full. We didn't go and get the seat first; instead, we headed straight to the foods section. Wow! There were so many to choose from, and I had ‘rambang mata’.

After checking out the foods, I choose baby kailan fried with oyster sauce, kacang botol fried in chili, ikan masin, masak lemak cili api telur itik (duck’s egg cooked with cili and coconut milk) and ikan bakar cencaru. Since so many ‘lauk’, I asked for half rice only.

I’m not sure what R ordered, but what I saw on her plate was daging bakar, sambal, and veggies. For drinks, I ordered ice lemon tea whereas R order lime juice.

I was really looking forward to eat my food. The moment it went into my mouth, I felt like my whole mouth burning. The hotness went all the way to my ears. Quickly, I grabbed my drinks to cool it off. Half way through eating, I have to order another drink.

My non-Malay friends have been laughing at me for not eating hot stuff. Actually I do eat hot stuff, but normally when I cook, I reduce the chili so that it would not be very hot. Otherwise, my tummy will be upset, and that’s what happened today.

Eventhough, it was hot, but the food was yummy, and the company was great. Lots of stories between the two of us. And the best part is the price at Tupai-Tupai is very reasonably. For two persons, it only cost us RM25.00. If I eat at Sooka, I don’t think I get that price.

Okay, gotta go. Tummy upset. Salam.

Lempeng for breakfast

On Sunday, my hubby took us out for breakfast at Asam Pedas in Bangi. The place was full when we reached there. However, we didn’t have to wait for long before Amir managed to secure tables for us.

Initially, I told hubby just to pack and bring back home, but he insisted that we went there so that I can see all the food varieties the restaurant offers. I was impressed. They served so many kuih and foods there.

Besides the normal ‘nasi lemak’, ‘mee goreng’, ‘mee hoon’, ‘kew tiau goreng’, and ‘roti canai’, they also have ‘nasi dagang’, ‘pulut’, ‘roti jala’ and my favorite, ‘lempeng pisang’. Besides ‘lempeng pisang’, they also have ‘lempeng kelapa’, which is my husband favorite. By the way, if you don’t know what’s lempeng, it is actually a Malaysian pancake. Lempeng pisang is banana pancake while lempeng kelapa is coconut pancake.

The lempeng kelapa and pisang seem to be hit with the crowds. When I was young, my mom liked to make it for us. I will eat it either with ‘sambal’, fish or chicken gravy or with sugar.

Lempeng is the easiest and cheapest food to prepare. You don’t see people selling lempeng back then. But today, you can make money from it. Thanks to the busy life of working moms.

When I first told my kids about lempeng, which was about a month ago, their first responds were, “Lempeng? What’s that.” and their first reaction when they saw the picture of lempeng, “Ohhh! Tak sedap! (not nice)”

But now they have a different perception about lempeng. They like it, especially lempeng pisang, and now they look forward for me to make lempeng. When will it be? Hahaha…don’t knows yet. But insya allah, one of these days.

Sekian…Salam.

It's all about food today!

We have an impromptu birthday party today. Not really a party. It is just a small gathering in the office to celebrate PL’s birthday in advance. We had a chocolate cake and thanks to BSS who walked all the way to Secret Recipe to buy the cake.

Talking about food, my seven years old has a simple cooking lesson at school today. His Bahasa Melayu teacher asked them to bring bread, sardine, cucumber and butter to school. The objective is not to teach the students how to make sandwich but to see whether the students can understand the instructions.

When I reached home, before I can put down my bags, he already started telling me what they did in the class. He also said that they shared all the sandwiches with other classes too. He proudly told me that he can make sandwiches now and if I want one, let him know. I just nodded my head acknowledging him.

But I was glad when he didn’t bring back the sandwiches. If he did, I don’t think I will eat. Not sure how clean was their hand when they did the sandwiches.

For dinner tonight, the kids wanted McDonald. As we passed by the Bangi’s McDonald, the parking was full. We had to park at the Kompleks PKNS  and walked our way to McDonald.

I was surprised to see it was packed with people, mainly young people who came and brought their laptop there and started surfing the internet. They were hogging the table and their inconsiderate action has left other patrons standing waiting for empty table. Heh! Some  of them were there to study but I wonder how much they can absorbed as it was very noisy. After waiting for ten minutes, we managed to secure a big table for six of us.

Ish! Ish! Ish! Zara who was so adamant that we go to McDonald only ate French Fries but Zaki who said he wanted to go to Pappa Rich, ended up eating McChicken and nugget. Ahhh..Kids! Kids!

Oh ya! Before I go, here is an update on my mom. She will have her operation tomorrow and please pray for her and also this weekend is the Malaysian Formula1 GP. Go Mark Webber!

Thanks…see you…Salam

Monday Blues

Today was a very slow Monday in the office. Everybody was kind of in black mood. No greetings, no laughing and no smiling.  Is it because of Monday everybody in this mood? Hmmm…. very unusual because even though Monday, there will be always someone who in the cheerful mood.

But not today. At first I thought it was due to early Monday morning but as the day progressed, the office was still quiet. Only one or two persons were active. By the time lunch hour, most of them just ‘tapau’ the food from the food stalls at the basement.

As for myself and my BFF, instead of tapau, we had our lunch there. The place was packed as usual but we managed to get a place for us. I had my nasi kukus ayam goreng berempah and Teh-‘O’ iced while my BFF had Fried Mee Hoon and Teh-tarik. Hmmm..the fried mee hoon didn’t look good at all and she didn’t finished it.

As the day progress, the situation still didn’t change. Everybody was still not in a good moody except for a few. It was kind of weird that I didn’t hear any laughters or jokes throughout the days. Instead what I heard was angry words and angry conversation.

This negative feeling was seeping into everybody and by the time 6pm, people were already ready to go. Those I met in the lift have one common thing to say, “I’m tired.”

Hey folks it is only Monday and we have another four more days to go through this week. Can we change the negative feeling to positive feeling? Let’s be happier so that we won’t feel the tension and the stress. Can we?

Okay, I hope the positive energy will replace the negative energy and let’s pray the place will be lively from tomorrow onwards…salam.

Dinner at Pizza San Francisco

I thought of leaving early yesterday but last minute request held me back until 6.45pm. By the time I reached my car, it was 7pm. Since I already planned with hubby to take the kids out to dinner, I was hoping to reach home by 7.30pm.

Traffic was clear when I left Plaza Sentral but the moment I entered NPE, the traffic jam started. After 30minutes stuck in the jam, I saw an ambulance, traffic policemen and motorbikes and people crowding on the left lane.

“Aduh! Accident,” I said. It was a fatal accident and they are waiting for police to come. “Huh! Not a good day,” I said to myself.  In the morning there was a buzz in the office about someone committed suicide but I don’t who.

By the time I reached home, it was almost 8pm and I quickly performed my maghrib prayer. Kids were all ready to go.

The initial plan was to go to Mohd Chan Abdullah Restaurant who specialize in Chinese cuisine. As my husband turned to the Restaurant, Amir said,”I don’t want to eat here.”

Zaki chimed in and said he will drink water only. When my husband heard that, he continued to drive. When I asked him, he just kept quiet. He kept on driving until we reached Pizza San Francisco. When the kids saw Pizza San Francisco, they shouted, “Yes, ayah! Ayah best."  They love to eat at Pizza San Francisco.

Normally when we were there, the kids favorites are Carbonara but last night only Amir and Zara ordered Carbonara. Zaki said he wanted orange juice only and Syafiq said he didn’t want anything. I know them very well so I order chicken fingers for both of them. For me and hubby, we ordered Beef Stroganoff and Chicken Mushroom. Oh we order pizza too.

For drinks, me and Zara ordered lime special, Zaki ordered orange juice and the rest ordered lime juice. The first food to arrive was the chicken fingers. When Zaki saw that, he said “I'm hungry and I want that.”  Syafiq maintained that he didn’t want the chicken but I saw him eating some.

Zara didn’t finished her Carbonara because she was busy trying all the drinks. After taking few sipped of her drinks, she didn’t want it anymore because it was too sourish. She was eyeing her dad’s drink and so I swapped their drinks. Still the lime juice is too sour for her. Ended up she only drank warm water.

Amir as usual finished his food and in fact ate others food too.  This boy really has a healthy appetite. Need to control else he will be growing horizontal instead of vertical. For my food, it was okay and so was my hubby chicken mushroom.

Nobody touch the pizza and we asked the waitress to pack the pizza and Zara’s Carbonara. Overall, the dinner went well and Pizza San Francisco in Bangi is the nice place to go for family dinner. Parking is easy to get and the area also not so crowded. If you happened to come to Bangi, you can try to eat at Pizza San Francisco.

Okay…Chiao first. Salam.

What's Wrong With Me

I had Rosemary beef pie for lunch and coffee today but I was still sleepy. I thought that by skipping rice and having coffee will help me to get through the afternoon, but it was not. Not sure why I was so sleepy today but I have been yawning since morning. I felt everything moves very slow today.

When I saw maruku on my friend table, I happily took a piece. This is one of my favorite
maruku but the moment I bite it, it felt like I'm biting into a piece of brick. It was so damn hard.

I thought I'm the only one having problem eating the maruku but my other colleagues also find it hard. So we sit around my place and everyone busy chewing the maruku and start commenting and analyzing what was wrong with it. My friend who bought the maruku said the one that she tasted at the stall was soft and nice.

I wish that instead of discussing the maruku, I can discuss my current WIP that has not moved for the past two weeks. I kind of lost my creativity and motivation since my parents are diagnosed with cancer and my brain has becomes slow.

I'm not sure when I can get out from this situation but I hope that it will not be too long.
Meanwhile, I need my sleep and also please pray for my parents.
