Getting fit again

Part of SAHM - feeding kitty
Hello! It has been a while since I update anything here. Didn't do it on purpose, but I was busy. Busy with my new life as Stay At Home Mom. Frankly speaking, all those years working in big corporate world didn’t prepare me for this kind of storm.

It has been two months of tiring world for me, and I am still adjusting to the new role. Well if it took three months for me to be confirmed when I was working so I guess I need that one more month to be confirmed that I am fit to be SAHM.

Ha..ha.. ha… whether I’m fit or not I will be stuck with this new role. Well not everything is bad in this new role. There are good and bad things… more good things than bad actually

Ah.. enough of my boring stories as SAHM. So what else have I been working on besides SAHM?

Well, working on my health. Well it was always my priority to get myself fit again. Years of neglect and abuse on my body did take a toll on my health. I was basically having big mobility issues last two years and guess what, the two months that I stayed at home has improved my health a lot. Especially to my mobility.

Last weekend, after months of avoiding going shopping I went to Alamanda. Heh! I walked for quite a distance before my back started to get cramps. It was basically walking, stopping, sitting and walking again for me. I was happy with that progress as previously I could only walk for 50-100m before my back started cramping and causing the whole body stiff.

And on Sunday, I went to Kajang Metro. This time shopping for printer. I was without printer for almost a year, and finally after putting off buying it for a few months, I finally get a Canon printer. Good enough to cater for my current needs.

Ha..ha..ha…..again, the same technique was applied as I was in Alamanda, but this time, I covered quite a distance before I need to rest and sit. That was an achievement, right? Yes, indeed!

But I have to pay for the price of overdoing this. My knee suddenly gets locked up, and I had a problem to stands for a while. Luckily I have the cooling pad that the moment I reached home, I applied it over my throbbing knee. It helps, but the soreness is still there.

And today, I feel much better. And I plan to do nothing for today…I need to give my knee some more rest. And also I’m going to cook curry – not chicken but crab… Wanna join me for dinner tonight?

Hahahaha....Okay..... got to go, and it rhyming with Let it Go which I’m listening to now… Chiao…

Maid: Do we have to be at their mercy?

Oh! My dilemma with maid is never ending. In my previous post Maid oh Maid, I was singing praises for my new maid but that only lasted for 4 weeks. My maid has been threatening us about leaving and before she do that, we sent her back to the agent.

Well, maid problem in Malaysia is kind of serious, to me, because the Indonesian government is banning their people to come to Malaysia to work until both government settle on salary, day off and some other issues. To me, I'm fine to accommodate their request but how can the agent or the Indonesian government ensure us that we get what we pay for?

The past experience has made us more wary and selective of hiring the maid from Indonesia as they are know to lack the required skill and also language. So for me to pay the amount they asked, I have no problem but the maid has to be:

1) have some working experience first. There are occasion where the maid doesn't know how to light the gas stove, let alone operating the electrical appliances.

2) the maid must be able to understand some basic language of our Bahasa Malaysia. There was one maid that I had before who totally doesn't understand our language. It was like a duck talking to a chicken and the training is very exhaustive because everything has to be shown with example.

3) be truthful about their age. Since the age legal age is between 21 to 45, they have falsified their birth date to meet the requirement. My latest maid age was 47 years old, which we found out from her passport, and she told the agent and us that her age is only 37. I also have a maid, my best maid ever, who was 18years old but her passport listed her as 25 years old. To me this has shown their insincerity. Be truthful about it as we are going to trust you to take care of our kids.

4) ensure that the maid is responsible and would not disappear from the house leaving your kid at their mercy. I have read and also through some of my friends experience, there are maid who will just pack and leave, leaving your kids at home alone. These runaway maids normally has contact outside and believe me they just leave the house and stay with the construction workers.

5) they are certified to be fit - physically and mentally. There are maids who came here with some mental problem ending up they abuse the kids that they supposed to take care. Some of the employer resorted to install CCTV inside the house to monitor these abusive maid.

6) no practicing of black magic-some of the maid, ewwww they spit or add in their urine into your food or drink. Why they are doing that, only god knows but from what I heard is that they wanted the employer to listen to them and not the other way round where they are supposed to listen to the employer. They also bring with them some kind of charms where they charmed the employer. There were few cases where the husband lost interest with their wife and took the maid as his new wife. Their reason for bringing this charm with them is to make sure the employer will like them. Duh! If you are good, we will like you. No need to charm us.

So how can our government ensure that we get the right kind of maid to serve us? Do we have to be at their mercy? If they imposed conditions to us, shouldn't we have some condition too to ensure the safety of our kids and home when we are away at work?

Do you agree with me that we need some kind of assurance especially when it comes to the safety our little ones? Share with me your thoughts.

Shape up!

I heard of Shape-up sneakers few months back on twitter but didn't bother to check on it. However few days back, on twitter, someone tweet saying that her butt and thigh and calf mucscle has improved tremendously after using Shape-up sneakers after a few months.

Based on that tweet recommendation, I googled up Shape-up and found out Skechers has Shape up for sneakes and flip-flop. I quickly informed Yati of this product and we decided it is a good buy.

So on Thursday, I was in Menara Maxis for meeting. After meeting, I decided to go and look for Skechers. First, I went to the sport shop next to Kinokuniya and they didn't have Skechers. Then I went to one floor below and none has Skechers. After searching for 20 minutes, I decided to go to Parkson and the first thing that I saw at the sport's corner was Shape up. Wow! my lucky day I said.

So after trying a few models, I bought a gray Shape-up sneaker and a brown tone-up flip-flop. I told the Sales Assistant to pack my old shoes and I wore the new sneaker. Well, I was poorer by RM600.00 but for something good I don't mind.

Did I find anything difference when wearing Shape-up? Definitely! and these are only after 2 days wearing it.

  • I normally have backpain when I carry my laptop from the parking lot to my office which is about 7 mins walk. But after wearing Shape up, I don't feel the pain.

  • I normally slouch when I walked but with Shape up, I stand straight and this is feedback from my friends

  • I felt my muscle at my butt and thigh are little bit sore as if I was doing exercise.
Okay for now. I will update more on Shape up in a month time on my progress. In the meantime, if any of you have Shape-up sneaker or flip flop, you may want to share with me on your observation.
