When too creative can cause trouble

Aduh hai! Zaki has been very creative. Too creative for me to be proud of.  It is not creative in writing or drawing, but creative in causing trouble.

Well, what did he do? He cut his hair with his scissors. Just a spot on his hair and its not a small either.  It can be clearly seen from far.

I don’t know when he did it, but I do know it was yesterday. Normally we didn’t let him keep the scissor, but because of school works, we gave him expecting that he would cut the pictures and paste it on his books, and not his hair.

When I saw it last night, I was speechless.  He thought he looked good. When I told him that I had to shave his head, he went, “Nooo.”

Luckily, it was just one spot. What happened if it is more than one spot? It would be really disaster.

I don’t know what will be my husband reaction when he sees Zaki’s hair.

It is not the first time he had been creative with scissor. He cut his school uniform pants, his pajamas and few other things. He reminded me of Syafiq at his age. He too cut his school pants, but not his hair.

Because of this creativity, my husband and me didn't want to give them scissors, but most of school works required them to cut and paste pictures. Ugh!! I hope he will not cut Zara's hair because Zara has been complaining about her hair.

Ahh!!! That's the story of my kids. Without them, the house will be quite, and if they are around, my house will be the nosiest in the neighborhood.

Bedtime and books.

Every night, at bedtime, Zara insisted that I read to her. She doesn’t want anybody else except me to read. She would choose which book and story that I must read. If I didn’t read to her, she would say that, she cannot sleep. But I’m not worried because, within 20 minutes, she will be in the lala land.

There were times when I was too tired I would create a story on the fly, but she would know. When I did that, she would insist that I read two or three stories for her. I can't bluff my way with her because she knows all the story.

When Amir and Syafiq were young, I also did the same to them. They were okay with the stories that I created for them. In fact, they preferred my stories than the books.

The story that I told them was about a young boy who lost his parents, and how he has to stay with his grandparents. Every night they would ask what happened to the boy, and every night I have to be creative with the story. Unfortunately, I didn’t record or write it. In fact, I can’t recalled much what I told them.

But Zara didn’t want that. As I read to her, she wanted to see the picture, and from there she would ask me hundred and one questions. Again, I have to be creative with the answers or else she would never satisfy.

But Zaki is different. Instead of asking me to read, he will read himself. Every night, before he says his prayer, he will spend 10 minutes to read. He will always has the book by his side.

Actually, it was a big changed for him from last year. Last year, he struggled to read, but he did a wonderful progress in his last term. I guess it was all due to his desires to read that he made the big progress. And for someone like me who loves to read, I always encourage him to read. Will he be like me? Insya Allah.

Sekian…Salam.

How good is your imagination?

I like to look at the sky. The formation of the cloud and the different color shades of the sky always fascinated me. Last sunday, while on my way sending my helper back to her place, I asked her to look at the sky.

Me: "Bibik, look at the cloud? What do you see?"
Bibik : "Hmmm...is it going to rain?"
Me: "No. Look careful. What do you see?"
Bibik: After looking around for few minutes she said, "Don't know."
Me : Pointing to a cloud that look like a man's head. "Look at that cloud. Does it look like a man's head and shoulder?"
Bibik: "Ha ah!" she sound so excited to discover that.
Me: "What else can you see?"
Bibik: "Hmm...'

I like to do the same to my kids. Whenever we go out, I will ask them to look at the sky and see what they can see. It is interesting to see each and every one of them have their own interpretation from one cloud formation but the common one that I heard , Dragon.

To me, this is one way of challenging my children to use their imagination and to be creative. This is also what I did when I was a kid. I will lie down on the grass or underneath a tree and looked at the sky. So many things I imagined. I guess because of that, I'm now more of an observer rather than a talker.

Do you think it is bad to be an observer? I don't think so because it gives me a lot of ideas. Before I go, what can you see from the picture below?
